As the winter cold begins to bite, our early risers have been treated to some magical, mist-covered mornings as they head out on their sunrise safari. At Klaserie Drift, our guides love to take full advantage of this precious golden hour, where not only is the light fantastic for photography, but it’s also the time where our predators are most vocal - perfect for seeking them out before they settle for the day. The month of love proved yet another fruitful time in the Klaserie reserve. Some cool, overcast days offered welcome respite from the summer heat and the bush is looking as lush and green as ever. From leopard kills to heavily pregnant lionesses, the cats came out in force for our fortunate guests - keep reading to discover more!

November started with a bang as the very first morning our guides located the River pride feasting on a giraffe kill in the ridges above the Klaserie river. With the summer temperatures heating up, our favourite feline family soon decided the cool river sands below were a better way to spend the day and, one-by-one, migrated to their watery namesake. It was here, enjoying a wonderful view of the pride lying up amongst the reeds, that the Island female leopard and her cub were spotted hiding in a huge Nyala tree just 100 metres away.

"Overwhelmed, the bull collapsed to the ground within minutes and, despite a final surge of adrenaline to regain his feet, he fell back into a thicket by the river. Once down, there was sadly no return for this magnificent beast as one of the males moved in to give the final kiss of death."

Heralded as one of the best months to visit on safari - due to it being right at the end of the dry season and with the moderate, transitional temperatures of spring - September has lived up to its expectations at Klaserie Drift.
